Steven Scharf for Cupertino City Council 2016

As Your Cupertino City Council Member, Steven Scharf will:

1. Advocate for Residents, Schools, and Parks, NOT for Developers
   
   
   • Developers, whose sole interest is maximizing profit at the expense of residents and public schools, have created "pay to play" in Cupertino by buying politicians to gain approval of extremely harmful projects.
   • Developer-funded ballot measures that bypass the Planning Department, the City Council, and the state requirement for Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs), are NOT a substitute for proper planning. The City Council should forcefully oppose these destructive initiatives.


2. Support the REAL Revitalization of Vallco, NOT a Massive Office Complex
   
   
   • Vallco should be revitalized as shopping, dining, and entertainment, NOT as high-rise offices that will cause massive traffic congestion and school crowding. The property owner should NOT be rewarded for destroying Vallco Mall. Don't fall for the hugely expensive, highly misleading, campaign being waged by an out-of-town developer that cares nothing about Cupertino. No on D.


3. Encourage Sensible Growth and Strongly Oppose Uncontrolled Hyper-Growth
   
   
   • Protect our schools by advocating for the principles of Sensible Growth which evaluate the impact of commercial office space on state housing mandates
   
   
   • Compel developers to fund new schools that their projects will require, not just more portables.

   • Support environmentally sound projects like the new Apple campus.
   
   
   • Expand the Cupertino Library and add underground vehicle parking and secure bicycle parking.


4. Work for Safe Neighborhoods and Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety
   
   
   • Continue working for bicyclist and pedestrian safety with traffic calming and more law enforcement.
   
   
   • Increase Sheriff's Department funding to add deputies and detectives to fight property crime.
   
   
   • Oppose developer efforts to evade Cupertino's parking ratio requirements, which result in neighborhood streets clogged with overflow parking.


5. Protect our Environment
   
   
   • Work with other cities to compel Lehigh's compliance with state and federal environmental regulations.


6. Promote Honesty in Government
   
   
   • Work for transparency in city government, currently lacking in Cupertino.
   
   
   • Oppose special-interest funding of political campaigns.
   
   
   • Oppose the "revolving door" of former politicians lobbying for developers and against residents.
